Two young motor racing enthusiasts hope to step up to the big time by qualifying to take part in Le Mans 24 hours.
Edward and Harry Cockill, from Heathfield, work for Uckfield Motor Services and are currently looking ahead to 2015 when their first step on the road to Le Mans is the highly competitive Radical SR3 challenge.
Having competed in karts from the age of eight and winning more than 500 trophies, winning four British championships and the Champion of Champions, motorsport has continued to play a major part in their lives.
In 2010 the boys decided to take the plunge into saloon car racing, competing in the Ford Fiesta championship. Edward competed in Ford Fiesta Class A and Harry competed in Ford Fiesta Class and both recorded straight wins from the word go.
Edward was named Motorsport News Saloon Driver of the Year and Harry was named in the Motorsport News’ top 10 young drivers to watch. Motorsport News is Britain’s second biggest selling motorsport publication.
The following year was another successful one when the boys finished second and third in the Dunlop Ford Fiesta Championship, recording numerous wins, podiums and fastest laps. To round off the season they competed in the last round of the British Endurance Production Championship winning the class by more than two laps.
The season of 2012 proved a fruitful year when the pair competed in the British Endurance Production Championship in a Honda Civic Type R race car. They recorded numerous wins and podiums on their way to the overall championship, class championship and were delighted to add another British title to their long list.
In 2013 they competed in the same championship in a Seat Supercopa and won three races, numerous podiums and led the championship where they were taken out by another competitor.
Harry then took a year out to concentrate on driver tuition where he has pushed his competitors to many wins across the UK and Europe.
Edward, meanwhile, has still been competing in the Ford Fiesta Championship winning every race this season and claiming the 2014 Championship.
Edward said: “We are currently searching for sponsors to help us further our career in motor sport and the forthcoming season in the Radical SR3 Challenge. We welcome the opportunity to speak to anyone interested about this exciting prospect.”
They say their car is here and it is a true world supercar - the SR3 RS.
