A new winter event celebration has been lined up for older people in Heathfield.
They are invited to join Wealden Senior Citizens’ Partnership and The Heathfield Surgeries between 10.30am and 3.30pm on Saturday, January 24 at State Hall, Station Road. Booking is essential so ring Elizabeth on: 01435 865032 by January 15 to reserve a place.
This event is possible thanks to funding by Royal Mail. In a bid to lower the number of older people in Heathfield spending winter alone, the event provides an opportunity for them to get together.
Royal Mail has donated £50,000 to Age UK to fund social activities for older people across the UK. Age UK is one of three charities the company is supporting under its current Charity of the Year programme. Age UK says too many older folk face being lonely and isolated.
Now they can enjoy a day of entertainment, find out lots of helpful information, enjoy free refreshments and a hot lunch. Transport can be provided locally so ring and ask.
Royal Mail spokeswoman Lily Heinemann said: “Royal Mail is really pleased to be supporting this event in Heathfield for older people in the area. “We’re proud to be at the heart of the communities we serve, and this demonstrates our on-going commitment to supporting organisations, local groups and events that our customers care about and that make a real difference to people’s lives.
Hannorah Lee from Age UK said: “Loneliness and isolation are very real issues for thousands of older people. Through these winter events older people can get involved in their local communities.”
