AWARD-winning Heathfield painter, Louise Chavannes from Elm Way is set to stage a solo exhibition at The Hop Gallery in Lewes this year.
Last year Louise won the coveted St Cuthbert’s Royal Watercolour Society (RWS) Competition 2011 with her picture Woodland in Snow.
She had been shortlisted for leading watercolour awards in the past but this was the first time that she had won a national award.
Louise is an established watercolour artist who has developed her own style of painting which blends diffused layered backgrounds with a subtle hint of detail. During the last ten years she has held multiple solo shows and exhibited nationwide and also in Europe. She has also received worldwide commissions.
Louise takes inspiration for her work from walks in the nearby countryside and also from the memories of her native Northumberland where she grew up. As part of winning the RWS competition three of her works including Woodland in Snow were exhibited in the London Bankside Gallery in 2011.
Louise commented: “It was lovely having my work included in such an inspiring collection of watercolour painting.”
Inspired by her win, Louise has spent the last few months working on a new project which focuses on woodland scenes in a slightly abstract form. Her new collection features Heathfield’s countryside and woods. She aims for a sense of place using pigment and textures.
