HEATHFIELD CHAPEL: In Punnetts Town, invite all to their Easter services which are as follows: Good Friday, 10.30am devotional meditation with communion led by Paul Daniels. Sunday, 11am Easter day service with Paul with refreshments after; 6.30pm Songs of Easter Praise service when all will be welcome. This service will begin our evening services throughout the summer.

LOCAL HISTORY: At this month’s Heathfield and District History Society AGM the chairman reported a year of success and steady growth. The membership has increased and each month we welcomed visitors, several of whom have subsequently joined us. The business meeting was followed by a showing of the video Heathfield 1900 to 1992, compiled by Heathfield resident Mr A Knapman in 1992. We saw bullocks pulling coal wagons on the High Street replaced by cars, family stores replaced by chain stores and tree lined lanes replaced by pavements and street lights. We watched video footage of the fire which destroyed the Station Hotel (now the site of a major supermarket) and retraced a journey by steam train from Eastbourne to Tunbridge Wells showing the station at Heathfield. Memories were rekindled and newcomers to Heathfield were amazed at the changes which have taken place. The first meeting of the new programme will take place on Thursday, April 21, at 7.30pm in the Ian Price room at the Heathfield Community Centre when Michael Withers will talk on Medieval Musical Instruments. It promises to be a lively meeting and visitors are cordially invited.

HEFFLE CUCKOO FAIR: April 16, 11am to 5pm Park and Ride from Market Car Park from 10am. Entrance free. Every penny raised on the day will go to Demelza Hospice Care for Children. Dame Heffle and her procession will leave the Heathfield Community College at 11am and come to Cade St to re-enact the ancient legend and release the cuckoo to welcome spring to Heathfield. Many attractions, stalls, entertainment, food all day. Come and enjoy a great community day and support an excellent charity. Watch out for the scarecrows advertising the event. ST RICHARD’S CHURCH: Today, Good Friday, 2pm Hour at the Cross; Easter Day, 9.45am Parish Eucharist activities for children. Easter egg hunt. Tuesday, 2pm St Richard’s Toddler Group in the church hall. Wednesday, 10am Holy Communion. Please note that we shall be joining the Churches Together in Heathfield and District walk of witness on Good Friday morning starting at 11am from Union Church Heathfield.

HEATHFIELD SHOW: Heathfield on line entries closing date for 2016 show Saturday May 28 at Little Tottingworth Farm, Broad Oak. The Heathfield and District Agricultural Show’s on line booking facility on its web site (www.heathfieldshow.org) for all livestock and horse entries is now taking entries for the 2016 Show. The web site is fully interactive allowing exhibitors to enter their classes, visitors to purchase tickets and members to join, on line. Closing date for entries in the Livestock classes is April 1 and in the horse classes is April 11. If you would like a hard copy of the schedule please send an sae with a large first class stamp to the Show Secretary, 2 Grants Cottage, Brightling, Robertsbridge, East Sussex TN32 5HZ and we will post one out to you. No late entries will be accepted. As usual we have some new classes in each section, including an extra Dexter calf class, re-jigging of the Open Beef Classes, a small holder’s pig class, and of course the ever popular sheep sweep stake. The main ring attraction brings much excitement to the Heathfield Show this year with the JCB Dancing Diggers making a guest appearance.
