Heathfield: Runaway success for Le Tour

DESPITE lowering clouds, a hint of rain and the temptation to stay home to watch Wimbledon, 150 cyclists of all ages set off on Saturday July 7 for this year s Tour de Heathfield.

Assistant Chief Constable Tony Toyntonturned up at Heathfield Youth Centre in his smart black police cycling uniform to start the event and also to take part in it.

Meanwhile, children queued to have their photographs taken with the British Heart Foundation mascot, Mr Hearty.

Clare Brocklehurst was the representative for Youthability, which was chosen along with the British Heart Foundation and Heathfield Youth Centre as one of the charities to benefit from this year s Le Tour.

Organisers this week began the task of collecting sponsorship money from entrants.

A prize for the team raising the highest amount will be presented in October.
