MEN’S BREAKFAST: Men’s Breakfast, Saturday October 8 at 9am Upper Dicker Village Shop. Speaker is the Rev Dan Merceron on his time as an Army Chaplain. List in the church or email them to [email protected].

PARISH COUNCIL: The draft minutes of the most recent parish council meeting report that they would soon be in a position to report on the position re the new school development. The county council were starting their budget setting process and a motion would be put before the next council meeting to discuss grammar schools. In respect of the north Hellingly primary school the land would be secured and bids and offers would be received, the Regional Schools Commissioner would make the final decision. Some parish councillors had attended a presentation from one of the bidders and were concerned that they would not have the opportunity to attend others nor to be a part of the decision making process. Councillor Bennett urged council to send him their comments and also confirmed that the county council were in the process of looking at the requirement for additional secondary school places.

COFFEE MORNING: Tomorrow, Saturday, at 10am there in Hellingly Church in aid of the Mothers’ Union there will be a bring and buy, refreshments, cake stall and raffle.

GRANTS: Hellingly Parish Council invites applications, to arrive by October 7, from organisations active in the parish or whose activities are of potential benefit to Hellingly parishioners. Applicants should contact the parish clerk either by email ([email protected]) or telephone 01323 461390 to request an application form or alternatively it is downloadable from the council website at http://www.hellingly-pc.org.uk/finance/community-grant-scheme. A recent set of accounts will be required. Applications will be considered in November and approved by the parish council in the autumn, after which the grants will be paid to successful applicants. Although the total sum available for grants is limited the sum has not always been fully spent. The decision of the council is final. Organisations who have previously received grants will also need to re-apply. Applications should be addressed to: Parish Clerk, Hellingly Parish Council, The Village Hall, North Street, Hellingly, BN27 4DS.

MICHELHAM PRIORY: Book now for an Autumn Harvest Garden Tour at Michelham Priory on Saturday October 15. The ticket for this 90 minute tour exploring the seven acres of historic gardens with the head gardener, James Neal includes entrance to the house and grounds, tour, soup and fresh bread roll in the café. Tour starts at 11am to 12.30pm. Cost is £16 for non-members, £11 for Sussex Archaeological Society Members and Friends of Michelham Priory. Numbers are limited so please book in advance.
