HARVEST THANKSGIVING: This Sunday Hellingly Church will be at Michelham Priory at 11am for Harvest Thanksgiving and Apple Picking. There is also a share Harvest Supper on Saturday October 1 at Upper Dicker and Friday October 7 at Hellingly. There will be a Harvest Supper and Games Evening on Saturday October 1 at 7.15pm at Upper Dicker Village Hall. The cost is £7.50 per head. Book with Liz on 01323 841541. PARISH COUNCIL MEETING: The draft minutes of the most recent Hellingly Parish Council meeting reports that there were five members of the public present in part. Residents of Roebuck Park expressed their concern at the proposed move of the allotments to the current ecological site below the flats. They were concerned about traffic, noise, rubbish and bonfires. They also expressed concern that the area had not been surveyed for wildlife. They pointed out that when they purchased the flats there had been no mention of the possibility of allotments in the vicinity of the flats. Councillor White explained that there was a statutory obligation to provide allotments and this would be done through the s106 agreement with the developer. The original site for the allotments was not suitable as it was overshadowed by large trees, meaning that a large proportion of the allotment plots would be in constant shade. In addition, the site had previously been a tree nursery and the ground was full of roots which would need to be removed and a large quantity of topsoil put in, the site was also on a slope. For these reasons it was felt that the original site was not suitable as it would be very difficult for allotment holders to actually grow anything. He explained that the council would put regulations in place controlling the use of the allotments, this was how the Union Corner allotments were operated. These regulations would control structures on plots and would not allow bonfires on individual plots, they would potentially allow an organised bonfire on occasion in order to dispose of waste that could not be composted. An allotment supervisor would also be appointed. Councillor White offered to meet with the residents and to view the site from their flats in order to determine whether the allotments would actually be seen from there. He assured residents that before anything was developed they would have access to the plans. He also reminded them that at the time of the planning application they would be able to complain to Wealden District Council and the parish council. It was confirmed that there would not be direct vehicular access to the allotments from the flats.

MEN’S BREAKFAST: The next meeting is on Saturday October 1 at 9am at the Village Shop, Upper Dicker. Join the Vicar and others for a short talk, time for a chat and a scrumptious breakfast. The breakfasts will be held monthly and in October the Rev Dan Merceron will be talking about his time as an Army Chaplain.

RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION AGM: For Dicker residents on Friday September 30 at 7.30pm in Dicker Village Hall. In addition to discussion on planning matters and other issues, up to six committee members are elected. Do go along to the meeting.
