FUNDRAISING FOR KABUBBU: Hellingly Primary School pupils raised around Â£300 by holding various cake sales and stalls. This was to help towards the young people from The Square Youth CafÃ© in Hailsham who are set to embark on an eleven-day trip to Uganda this year to take part in a life-changing volunteer experience and appealed for donations for the Quicken Trust project. 12 young people and youth work volunteers will fly out to the isolated village of Kabubbu in Uganda on 21st October this year to get involved in a building project, agricultural development and helping families within the community. The Square Youth CafÃ©, owned and operated by Hailsham Town Council, has a long term relationship with the Quicken Trust, a Sussex-based charity which aims to transform the lives of people living in poverty in Kabubbu in terms of healthcare, nutrition, education, welfare and sustainable work projects. The Quicken Trust works in partnership with a range of organisations around the UK and worldwide to achieve this goal. Young people from '˜The Square' and Friday Night Project have visited Kabubbu several times in the past, where they have built a house for a family in need, and cleaned, painted and participated in arts and crafts sessions. Recent fundraising activities include a chest and back wax for members of Town Council staff and two parents by Beautyworks in Hailsham raising just over Â£500, in addition to two supermarket bag packs at which a total of around Â£1,000 was raised. Vicky Reynolds, a volunteer worker who will be flying out to Uganda with the young people in October, generated over Â£1,000 for the project through sponsorship, having run in the London Marathon last month.

MICHELHAM PRIORY COMMUNION: Make a date in your diary. Sunday 29 May there will be a service of Holy Communion at Michelham Priory at 11am hopefully on the site of the church that Henry VIII demolished nearly 500 years ago. This will be a really significant event so make sure you don’t miss out! Details for our congregation to get access will be given out at church in the weeks leading up to the weekend. This Sunday has also been set aside as a day when churches are being encouraged to hold open air services as a mark of recognition for the countless numbers of persecuted Christians around our globe.

CHURCH ACTIVITIES: Sunday Services: 8am Holy Communion - Hellingly; 9.15am Holy Communion - Upper Dicker; 10.45am Holy Communion - Hellingly. (Fourth Sunday - 10.45 am Family Service - Hellingly) Third Sunday at 5pm - informal worship and prayers alternating between the two Dicker and Hellingly churches. Music for Minis - Wednesday at 2 pm in term time for pre-school age children. Every Thursday 9.30 am BCP Holy Communion at Hellingly. Food Bank distribution - Thursday, 10 am to 11 am - for people to come and exchange their food vouchers for supplies at the Bunny Run, Roebuck Park.

QUEEN’S BIRTHDAY: The weekend of the 11 and 12 June is the official 90th birthday of our Queen. There will be a celebration at the Sunday 10.45am service at Hellingly with a non Eucharistic service of praise and celebration for our Queen’s 90 years and her example of faith. We hope to be joined by members of the Parish Council and members of the uniformed organisations.
