Help for Nairobi schoolchildren

Funds are urgently needed for a burned-out school in Kenya before schoolchildren return after their Christmas break.

Members of St Peter’s Church in Old Town have been involved in supporting a primary school in the Mathare Valley slum in Nairobi and were told three of its classrooms were destroyed by fire.

Money is now needed to rebuild those classroooms and buy tables and chairs.

The congregation of St Peter’s is continually raising funds for schools in the project and has £1,000 to send, but reckon £7,000 is now needed.

Spokesperson Mavis Williams said: “These children so appreciate their school, where they are fed, protected and given hope for the future.

“Any amount would be gratefully received and would be a wonderful Christmas present for the children who have so little and love their school.”

Anyone who wishes to donate is asked to make out a cheque to the St Peter’s Mathare Valley Project, and send to Peter Ewen at the Parish Office, The Stables, Church Street, Bexhill Old Town, TN40 2HE.
