Help keep Littlehampton lifeboat charity afloat

Littlehampton’s RNLI lifeboat station is seeking a volunteer events co-ordinator to come forward to support it.

Prospective candidates can volunteer for as long as they like. In the past, some people have supported the RNLI for a few months, while others lent a hand for several years.

All the lifeboat charity asks is that those willing to take on the role are motivated and creative and will help to generate new ideas for events and fundraising activities across the area.

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is seeking a new band of fundraising volunteers to come forward for its Arun district branch.

The charity helps to train hearing dogs to alert deaf children and adults to everyday household sounds and potential dangers in the home, workplace and out in the public.

That could be anything from an alarm clock going off, doorbell or telephone ringing, to smoke alarms being triggered and other emergency sirens.

The dogs alert their owners to those sounds by nudging them gently with their nose or tapping them with their paw.

Each dog is individually trained and tailored to help the individual’s specific needs – but it takes about £12,400 to train each one, and many thousand pounds more to support it and its owner over the years.

Volunteers will help make fundraising events run smoothly. This could be by setting up stalls and gazebos, to collecting cash and selling merchandise on the charity’s behalf.

A calendar of events is still being drawn up, but will typically involve weekend collections and duties.

The Littlehampton Carnival Association is searching for those willing to take on the role of marshalling this year’s carnival day bonanza in the town, next month.

Volunteers would need to work only a few hours during the event, which is set to take place on Saturday, July 6.

They will be responsible for manning the procession route. Training will be given.
