Help the fight against car crime

WORTHING residents are to be given advice by the police on how to help fight against car crime in the town.

According to the police, there were 44 less reported incidents of car crime in the town in the last two months, compared to the same period last year.

But there were still 92 reports of thefts from cars and 31 reports of thefts of cars in April and May this year.

Officers are urging residents to help themselves by emptying their cars before locking them and to be vigilant of suspicious activity.

These crime prevention tips are printed on leaflets being posted in hotspot areas.

Detective Sergeant Robin Aspin appealed to residents: "We want to further reduce vehicle crime in Worthing and want your help. Not only do we want you to empty your cars so as not to attract thieves, but we want you to also help us catch the offenders.

"Research shows car crime is carried out by offenders who live in, or are associated with, the area."
