Hero ambulance workerneeds your Daybreak vote

AN ambulance worker who rescued a woman from a burning house has been shortlisted for a Pride of Britain Award.

Paramedic practitioner Jeanette Yeoell (right), who is based at Bexhill ambulance station and lives in Ticehurst Close, Hastings, has been shortlisted for the Daybreak Emergency Services’ Award.

She was nominated for the award following her courageous actions which saw her rescue an elderly woman from her home in the De La Warr Road area of Bexhill in November 2009.

Jeanette, risking her own safety, knocked down the front door and saved the 73-year-old woman who had badly burnt the back of her legs.

The award which recognises and celebrates the actions of those in the emergency services sees four emergency workers who are shortlisted appearing alongside Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley on Daybreak. It will then be left up to the public to vote for the emergency service worker they believe should receive the award.

Jeanette was delighted to have reached the shortlist stage. She said: “I was very surprised and honoured to have reached this stage.

“I feel very privileged that I can represent the ambulance service and my colleagues who do such a fantastic job day in day out and without the same level of recognition.”

Jeanette will be joining Adrian and Christine on Daybreak on Tuesday October 26. We would ask everyone to show their support and vote for Jeanette.

• Jeanette was also presented with a Royal Humane Society testimonial on vellum in August and given the Mayor’s Award for Bravery in the Bexhill Achievers Awards 2010.
