Herstmonceux murder: Family pays tribute to '˜much-loved' woman

She was found dead by police officers at her West End home at 11.30am on Monday morning (March 21) after people had expressed concern for her welfare.

Police have now named the victim as 47-year-old Carrie Izzard, who worked at the Battle Tackle shop in Ninfield Road, Sidley.

A spokesman for her family said, “Carrie was a much-loved daughter, sister and aunt who will be deeply missed. Her fun-loving ways and zest for life will live on in our memories.

“Her passing in such tragic circumstances will leave a big hole in the lives of her family and those who knew her.

“The family requests privacy at this sad time.”

A 50-year-old man, known to the woman, was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being found at his Battle home.

Upon discharge, he was arrested on suspicion of murder. He is currently helping police with their enquiries.

Ms Izzard was the widow of Jim Izzard, a former photographer who worked for Sussex Newspapers. He died of a heart attack almost two years ago while serving a customer at Hailsham Camera Centre. He was previously the manager of the MXV camera centre in Uckfield.

A post mortem examination is due to take place today to determine the cause of death.

Detectives say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death but have renewed an appeal to anyone who noticed anything suspicious in West End, Herstmonceux, over the past few days to contact them.
