Herstmonceux & Wartling

COFFEE MORNING: Vitality Village will be holding its coffee morning on Monday from 10am to noon in the Great Space at Herstmonceux Health Centre and hope that many people will join them for a cuppa. This time we will have a nostalgic talk looking back to the days when pharmacists were renowned for the mystical concoctions they compounded in an attempt to cure all common ailments. The days when side effects were unheard of, Friday night was Californian Syrup of Figs night and Exlax Caters Little Liver Pills and Beechams Pills were to be found in every medicine chest. Those were the days of boils carbuncles and chilblains when chests were rubbed with Camphorated Oil and Andrews Salts worked wonders for the liver. Ladies creamed and powdered their faces with products by Ponds and gentlemen held their hair in place with Brylcreem. A table full of pharmaceutical memorabilia guaranteed to bring memories flooding back accompanies the talk.
