139TH SUMMER SHOW: The programme and schedule is already out so you can start working on your entry for the Windmill Hill Horticultural Society’s 139th Summer Show on Saturday August 6 from 2pm to 4.30pm at The Reid Hall, Boreham Street. Entrance will be £1, children free and free parking. There will be classes for flowers, decorative, fruit and vegetables, novelty, home produce, children’s, photographs, handicraft and much more. There will also be stalls, tombola, raffle, bric-a-brac, human fruit machine, cake stall, teas and refreshments. The Society welcomes entries from everyone, members and non-members alike. Programmes are available all around town. I picked mine up from the Health Centre.

ST GEORGE’S DAY PARTY:It is a St Georges Day celebration on Saturday April 23 at Herstmonceux Village Hall. On offer is a two course meal, entertainment, licensed bar 6.15pm for 6.45pm to start serving all for just £15. Contact Laurence Keeley on 01323 832660 for tickets, surplus moneys to be shared between the Veteran Blind Association and the Lifeboat Association.The Evergreen Singers will be singing too.

CHURCH SERVICES: All Saints: Services on Sunday are at 9.45am Holy Communion (CW). Wartling: 8am Holy Communion BCP. There is Messy Church in the afternoon at 3.30pm at Reid Hall. All welcome.

MESSY CHURCH: The next session is on Sunday from 3.30pm to 5.30pm at Reid Hall, Boreham Street. Last month was the Easter Story, had Easter activities and an Easter tea. Go and see what is planned for this month. All welcome, any ages and a donation to the cost of the hall if you would like to give.

ANNUAL PLANT SALE: A plea to all gardeners. All Saints Church annual plant sale will take place in the village hall on Saturday May 7. Please sow a few extra seeds, take cuttings, divide perennials and houseplants and sort out unused gardening books and small garden sundries, to donate to our sale. Every little helps to keep our beautiful medieval church in good order. We would be grateful if all plants and sundries could be brought to the Village Hall between 8.30am and 9am on the day, as the sale opens at 10am. Please encourage your children and grandchildren to take part in the competitions to be judged in the small hall at the same time. You need to start thinking of these now and working on them: Garden on a plate; arrangement of natural finds; a photograph taken by yourself; a cupcake decorated with flowers. The morning is always enjoyable, so we look forward to meeting you there for coffee and a chat.

FRIENDS OF ALL SAINTS: The Bingo on the afternoon in March was a very enjoyable occasion with 77 players including grandmas and granddads, mums and dads and several children. It was followed by a tea with sandwiches, savouries and a delicious array of cakes. The afternoon concluded with an enormous raffle. For all this there was so much support from the community it is impossible to thank you all individually. Together a sum of £650 was raised for our funds. Thank you Herstmonceux and well done. CHRISTIAN AID WEEK: This year Christian Aid week is from May 15 to 21 and you will be able to find one of the little red envelopes and make a contribution, however small. All monies raised help those affected by violence, war and extreme weather conditions to rebuild their lives and turn grief into hope. Please leave envelopes at All Saints Church, Wartling Church or the Post Office (Mace Stores).

KNIT AND STITCH: Meet on Thursday at 2.30pm in the Village Information Centre. Please bring your knitting or embroidery. Chat as you work, sometimes more chat than work. Tel Jocelyn 01323 832997.

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE: Most are familiar with Eastbourne General Hospital, but how many know about the work of the Friends of Eastbourne Hospital? The April meeting will be a good opportunity to find out more about this very worthwhile volunteer organisation from Speaker, Ann Wilson. REID HALL JUMBLE SALE: This was a very successful sale, raising over £900 which was topped up to £1000 by a kind local resident. A huge thank you to all who took the time to donate jumble, give up your Saturday and for your continued support for our village hall.

QUEEN’S 90TH BIRTHDAY: The Boreham Street and Wartling Fund will be celebrating the 90th Birthday of Her Majesty The Queen on Thursday. The event will be in aid of their charitable fund and will be held at The Bull’s Head with a Beacon, barbecue and live music 7pm.

THE HEALTH CENTRE: Currently they are in the process of interviewing for the two new receptionists at the Health Centre, allowing more support to our administration team. The training for the new members of staff will be during April/May and we ask if you could be patient with us whilst they are being trained, thank you. As of April 13 a new phone system will be installed which will allow patients to choose various options when phoning, enabling a more efficient, user friendly system. In April we will be saying goodbye to Dr Zacks. Dr Zacks has been a wonderful member of the team and will be sorely missed, we will however be welcoming our next GP trainee Dr Tyler, who started on April 6. Thank you again for embracing these doctors, they have all left having learnt so much and really value the learning experience. Facebook Herstmonceux Integrative Health Centre now has a facebook page, on this we will post all our events and news from the Health Centre. Patient Access: In April and May, Mel Ingham our wonderful IT lead/Whiz will be holding Patient Access Workshops, so for anyone who wants to learn how to use this service, please contact the surgery and we will get back to you with workshop dates.

QUIZ NIGHT: Saturday May 14, book your tables now for a hilarious quiz night, to raise funds for medical equipment. Teams of up to eight on a table, £8.50 per brain, includes a supper of meat or vegetarian chilli. Bring your own drinks. Please phone the Health Centre to book a table.

WHAT’S YOUR GUT FEELING?: On May 7, 7pm to 8pm, Tanya Borowski - Nutritionist, who runs clinics in Herstmonceux Health Centre, Lewes and Harley Street, will be hosting a talk on IBS called What is Your Gut Feeling. If you are interested in coming to the talk please book at the Health Centre.

VITALITY VILLAGES: More information to follow regarding Vitality Villages next event. We are applying for funding to host a week of events for families in September involving talks, workshops, events and taster sessions all around health and wellbeing.

COFFEE MORNINGS: Coffee morning dates at the Health Centre are every third Monday of the month 10am to noon at HIHC, everyone welcome, listen to different speakers every month, enjoy a cup of tea, healthy snack, book discussion and quiz. For more information speak to Bea on 01323 833535.
