Charismatic and charming . . . You'd have expected nothing less of Anthony Corlick when he dashed to save a girl from drowning in the River Arun at Arundel.

It was 1942, and Corlick, a Canadian by birth, was stationed over here with the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry, Canada.

His prompt actions brought him an award from the Royal Humane Society '“ and a place in family legend.

Now his son, Jim King, has got in touch with the West Sussex Gazette from Canada wanting to know more. Sixty-six years on, he's keen to hear from anyone who remembers the incident.

"I've wondered for some time about that little girl and how her life went," Jim says '“ a life she owes to his dad.
