SOME things just don't change- as you'll see if you fly back to West Sussex for Christmas half a century ago.

The big Christmas 1957 picture in the Gazette was a sweet drawing of a quaint cottage standing at the junction of Horsham Road and the Crawley bypass- a house with a 'cheerful, welcoming appearance'.

Sadly, also a house with no future whatsoever.

"Soon the charming 300-year-old house with its oak beams, ships' timbers and huge central fireplace will be surrounded bu Corporatoon houses," the Gazette groaned.
