High praise for new 1066 Art Academy

THE 1066 Art Academy, inside Costa Coffee, Battle, opened on Saturday and the public response was overwhelming, with more than 250 art lovers attending the private view openings.

The opening exhibition in the upstairs gallery is GAIA with artwork by Liz Hankins, Carol Sharp, Fay Hankins and Jackie Summerfield.

The opening exhibition in the downstairs gallery is 4PLAY with artwork by Rosalind Barker, Beatrice Lacey, Yulia Podolska and Jenny Edbrooke.

Those attending praised the gallery for its diverse collection of art work and use of space and light,

Both exhibitions are now open to the public between 11am-4pm every Friday, Saturday and Sunday until May 5.

The Academy will be a creative hub facilitated by Pure Arts Group offering two interactive education and exhibition spaces. Over the next 12 months Pure will be rolling out a programme of educational opportunities and a community heritage project, alongside a regular programme of exhibitions to be delivered by Pure selected artists.

The 2013/2014 selection and judging panel will be made up of James Horton PRBA, artist Matt Small and London gallery owner Karina Phillips.

The 2014 PURE Spring Exhibition will be dedicated entirely to sculpture.
