Highest maths mark in the country but no university place for Haywards Heath student


Jamie Marsh, 18, from Hurstwood Lane took his Pre-U exams this summer, a qualification set by Cambridge University in place of A-Levels.
Jamie received a certificate through the post stating he had achieved the highest mark in the country in Maths.

Hide Ad“I expected to do well but nothing special, not like this,” he said.
He added that it felt great for the hard work to pay off.
Jamie achieved A*s in Double Maths, Chemistry and Biology but was not offered any places on university courses he applied for.
His mum, Melinda, said: “I think it’s extraordinary that you can do that well and not get a place, but we’ve had a few people on the phone since the results with offers.”
She added that she is extremely proud of her son.
Jamie had planned to be a doctor, but since not receiving any offers has rethought his future.

Hide Ad“I now want to do natural sciences. After that I have lots of options as it’s such an open degree, maybe I’ll go into research,” he said.
