Polegate windmill will reopen over the Easter bank holiday.

It will open on Sunday (April 5) and Monday (April 6) from 2pm until 5pm.

During the winter months volunteers of the Eastbourne and District Preservation Trust have been beavering away continuing with the ongoing renovations and maintenance demanded by a building that is nearly 200 years old.

A spokesman for the trust said: “In the case of Polegate windmill great effort is made to ensure that the visitor sees a true example of the way the mill was from its earliest times. Modern materials and fixings are avoided and only historically correct components are used during renovation. This is why we have so many visitors who are captivated by the Old World atmosphere which exudes from every stone and timber and makes them go away with the feeling they have been transported back in time. All of this is only possible by volunteers.” The trust still needs volunteers to help and guides and cashiers on open days. To volunteer call Lawrence Stevens on 01323 734496.
