Members of the Ferring Conservation Group were joined by Ferring Parish Councillors at the Warren Pond in South Ferring, to begin the long-term restorative project.

Ferring Conservation Group chairman, David Bettiss, said: “On a very wet weekend, we were extremely lucky to have a dry morning to complete the first part of the work. I am grateful as always to our committed volunteers for turning up and working so hard.

“It was also great to see the chairman of the parish council, Carole Robertson, there, as well as a number of her fellow councillors. We are enthused by the project, and it can only be of benefit to the village of Ferring.”

The pond, which has been owned by Ferring Parish Council since the summer, had fallen into neglect in recent years, according to the group.

Overgrown vegetation was cleared on the day, allowing easier access to the site.

The group said it would now seek grant funding from other bodies to add to the financial support provided by the parish council.
