Holding all the records to build orphanage in Nepal

Records are being used by a Walberton man as a money-spinner for orphans.

Steve Napier-Raikes is turning those old 45s, 78s and LP vinyl recordings into cash to help disadvantaged youngsters.

Steve, of Pound Road, has raised 4,600 in the past four years.

"I started buying old records at car boot sales and selling them on eBay to raise money for an orphanage in Nepal, but now I can't get enough of them," he said.

"Some are worth only a few pence but, every now and then, I find rare first issues which are worth a lot of money and they make it all worthwhile."

His best find has been a first edition of the Beatles LP The White Album which saw bidding reach a record 120.

Another Beatles LP he acquired, Yellow Submarine, sold for 67.

All the money he raises goes to support the Six Villages Nepal orphanage appeal run by Yapton Free Church and supported by schools and families in Barnham, Climping, Eastergate, Slindon, Walberton and Yapton.

"The fund pays for the monthly care and schooling of 35 children in an orphanage in Katmandu, Nepal. We have just bought a new home to house a further 15 children, so the money is going to a very good cause." Steve added.

"Many people still have records but no longer have a record player.

"So, we are appealing to everyone to have a look in their attic to see if if they have any old records.

"There is a market for records, new and old, and we are very happy to collect."
