Holiday homeshit by burglars

THE Rye area was affected by a number of burglaries over the Christmas period with thieves persistently targeting chalets and holiday homes.

Two caravans were broken into at New Lydd Road, Camber on December 23 and a television stolen.

Power tools were stolen after a property in New Lydd Road, which is being renovated, was broken into.

There were also a number of incidents at New Lydd Road on December 18 and 20. A chalet was broken into when a window was forced. Two sheds had their locks tampered with and a fence was damaged.

Garages and out-buildings have also been the target of thieves.

Rye police sergeant Warren Downs said: “We have sadly had some burglaries over the Christmas period with caravans and holiday homes being persistently targeted.

“I would ask you all to take the time to consider the security of your home security.

“Remember to take simple steps to ensure all areas of your property are secure and where possible locked.

“This includes gates, garden entry points, garages and sheds. I would like to ask the residents of Peasmarsh and Iden to remain particularly vigilant to the recent burglaries.”

A shop at Sea Road, Winchelsea Beach, was broken into on December 22 and a number of items stolen.

A group of men, thought to be responsible, drove off in a dark coloured BMW car.

Parts were stolen from a padlocked bicycle at Conduit Hill, Rye on December 18.

Police are appealing for information on the incidents.
