Homecall Christmas Fair

SCARVES, cards, jewellery, gifts - no wonder supporters of Homecall, the home-visiting charity for people visual impairment, rallied to a Christmas Fair.

Tuesday morning's sale at BUPA Grosvenor Park, in Brookfield Road, was the latest of a series of fund-raising events in support of Homecall.

Bexhill organiser Jenny Private launched an appeal earlier this year when the county-wide charity announced that because of funding difficulties it would have to end its service to blind and visually handicapped people from September.

The appeal was so successful that a Bexhill-based operation is assured for at least the next year.

A local trust board has been formed and fund-raising will begin in earnest again in 2009 to raise the cash needed to continue the service for a further year, with appeals to charitable trusts and to local supporters.

The new year will begin with a quiz night on January 30 at Christchurch Methodist Church Hall.

Jenny Private said at Tuesday's fair: "There is this tremendous enthusiasm for Homecall to continue.

"A lot of the people here today are volunteers."
