THE popular Sunday morning boot sales could soon be back in Lewes.

And it is hoped that they will recommence at their old location the NCP site behind Safeway.

The car park company called a halt to the sales after a disagreement with the previous organisers.

A request to stage the sales at the station car park was refused by the district council because of potential traffic problems.

Since then MP Norman Baker a regular visitor to the old sales has been working with local traders and ward councillor Kim Clark to bring the boot sale back to the town.

He wrote to NCP's managing director on August 7 to put a proposition for restarting the boot sale, hammered out between regular traders on the site.

Now NCP has said, in a reply last week, that in principle they would be willing to consider allowing the car boot sale to recommence, subject to agreement of satisfactory terms.

Norman Baker and Kim Clark will shortly be meeting the traders to firm up their offer and will then fix up a meeting with NCP when hopefully a formal agreement can be signed.

The MP commented: 'This is good news and shows a welcome flexibility on the part of NCP. I know the traders are adopting a responsible position which will prevent the problems associated with the previous management of the Sunday events.'

Cllr Clark added: 'I am hopeful that agreement can be reached and that it will not be long before boot sales are back in operation'.
