Created by friends Ed Sayer, Greg Templeman and Rob Dudman, Battle Brewery aims to enjoy producing relatively small batches of flavoursome craft ales and beers using the finest British ingredients, taking inspiration from 1066 country.

The journey started in 2010, in a small white 6x4ft ‘Brew Shed’. In the summer of 2016, it became clear that some great recipes were producing good beer that was popular with family and friends.

One beer-fuelled evening, the trio decided it was time to move to the next stage and launch Battle’s own brewery.

Since then the partners have registered as a brewer with HMRC, built and moved into a larger premises on a nearby working farm where they have installed new vessels to help them flourish into purveyors of local real ales to offer for sale for the first time.

Battle Brewery has already secured its first large order from Town Centre Inns which has a network of 24 pubs.

Director Ken Ryan said: “I was very impressed with the Craft Ale that Ed, Greg and Rob are producing. We are very pleased to be bringing their beer to our customers.”

Head brewer Greg said: “We have selected two popular beer styles for our first production batches, which we are sure will appeal to many drinkers. Conquest is our well-balanced copper ale which uses British malts and four bittering and aroma hops. Our Abbey Pale Ale is a hoppy, fruity, and easy drinking beer, my personal favourite. We look forward to bringing some more exciting beer styles to the range very soon, with seasonal specials lined up during the year.”

Ed said: “It has been a fantastic response from local publicans and businesses in and around Battle, who are keen to help us trial our craft ales in the local community. We are truly delighted with how our beers have been received. It has sparked huge interest from many people we have spoken to and we would like to thank everyone for their support in our start-up brewery.”

Rob said: “After a considerable amount of hard work over the last nine months seeking approval from the relevant authorities and fitting out our new premises, we are very excited to be launching these fantastic Craft Ales. We welcome everyone who would like to see the facility and taste the two flavoursome ales.”

Battle Brewery is located on Netherfield Hill Farm, Netherfield Hill, Battle and is opening its doors for tastings and nibbles tomorrow (Saturday), 10am-3pm. The online store will launch that evening. For further information visit www.battlebrewery.co.uk, follow on twitter
