A HORSE RIDER suffered serious head injures after she fell from her spooked horse along the A271 near Hailsham.
The 28-year-old from Eastbourne lost control of the horse whilst heading east on a rural lane, according to Sussex Police.
Police officers and other emergency services rushed to Under Road in Magham Down just before 6pm yesterday, May 28.
The horse had ‘become startled and started galloping at speed’, said a police source.
The injured woman was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital for medical treatment.
PC Dan Schiraldi, from the Road Policing Investigation Unit, said: “This is a very unfortunate incident and our thoughts are with the injured woman, who remains in a critical condition in hospital.
“It is still not clear why the horse became startled.
“We are appealing to anyone who saw the rider and horse in the area prior to the incident to please call 101 quoting Op Banton.”
