Horse slips on mud

FIREFIGHTERS from Bexhill came to the rescue of a horse at Moon's Hill, Ninfield, in a dramatic operation on Tuesday afternoon.

The elderly animal had slipped on mud, falling awkwardly with his legs trapped under him.

In failing light and with a specialist East Sussex Fire and Rescue animal rescue team on their way from Crowhurst with a crane-equipped vehicle, the Bexhill team set to work.

Carefully, they managed to pull the animal's legs from under its body.

As the worried owner had hoped, once the old horse's legs were freed he managed to struggle to stand up once more.

The 20-minute operation ended with the horse unharmed. The Crowborough unit was stood down in mid-journey.
