Horsham dog owner stopped trains to save pet

Isabel Alves, from Horsham, who works as a veterinary nurse at RSPCA clinic in Roffey, delayed trains running between Horsham and Dorking for more than an hour last Friday to save her brown and white Chihuahua after it got caught on the railway tracks between Woodstock Close and Pondtail Road.

She was out for a walk with her dog Oscar when, at around 2.45pm, he ran off towards the railway line and got stuck on the other side of the tracks.

The dog was unable to cross back over as the tracks were live and a search and rescue team was called out to try and help retrieve him.

Isabel, said: “The search and rescue team came down from Crawley but they could not get him because they were not allowed on the track.

“Oscar was very nervous and when one of the rescue team got over the other side of the tracks he ran off.

“The last time we saw him he was near Novartis. It was about 4.15pm and he ran away up the tracks towards Horsham, I have not seen him since.”

Oscar is still missing and Isabel is very worried about him. He is described as being small with brown and white fur and he only has one eye.

Isabel is asking anyone who lives near the area to check their back gardens and to keep an eye out for Oscar.
