Horsham girl’s sponsored walk for children’s home

After watching a children’s television programme about youngsters with illnesses, Horsham girl Ruby Tedeschi was inspired to raise some money.

Accompanied only by mum Rebecca Wigmore, Ruby completed a five-mile trek along the Downs Link.

Thanks to various sponsorships from friends, family and coffee shop customers, they raised £174.35 for the hospice.

Ruby presented a cheque to the team at Chestnut Tree House on Tuesday March 31.

Rebecca said: “It was her idea. She asked friends and family to sponsor her and asked the manager of Esquires coffee shop if she could leave a sponsor form on the counter which she did.”

Ruby, now a pupil at Greenway Academy, first heard about Chestnut Tree House while a pupil at Trafalgar Community Infant School, where she had taken part in some organised fundraising for the hospice.

Rebecca said: “After watching a programme on CBBC recently about children with illnesses, she was inspired to raise some money.

“It was just her and me that went and she raised £174.35. We went to Chestnut Tree House to present her cheque and see what a good cause the money would go on.”

Rebecca added that they would like to thank Rachel at Esquires and the coffee shop customers for their help in raising donations.

She said: “We haven’t obviously had a chance to thank them all personally and they were very generous!”
