Horsham Hockey Club’s title heroes urged to make their mark

Title-winning men’s hockey skipper Duncan Howarth has backed his Horsham side to ‘kick on’ and make their mark in the South League next year after sealing promotion on Saturday.

His side won 4-3 away at BBHC to seal the Kent/Sussex 1 league title with two games to go and a delighted Howarth said: “It was incredible to finally capture the title that the club has been working towards for many years.

“Never in the club’s history has the men’s team reached the South League, so it is a massive achievement, and one that the team, and indeed the whole club, are very proud of.

“As captain, the team have been an absolute pleasure to work with. We all put the effort in and it has paid off massively.

“Dom Male as player coach has been excellent – bringing not only his National League experience, but also introducing a new level of professionalism, one that the whole team has bought into.”

Howarth’s side have been all-conquering this year, winning 19 of their 20 games and scoring 94 times. Next year they will be just two leagues below the national England Hockey League and Howarth said: “We’re in a great place to kick on.”
