Horsham masterchef takes on footie fundraising feat

Horsham's own Masterchef Steve Edwards, best known for winning the sixth BBC series in 2013, has joined charity football team to raise money for a Sussex Children's Hospice.

The 29-year-old has been swapping his chef whites for a special football strip in support Chestnut Tree House.

Steven, director of his own company Etch Food and creative consultant for the Brighton i360 project, took part in a celebrity football match last year and will be supporting future games and tournaments, including another celebrity ficture in the pipeline.

Steven was the head chef for charity dinners supporting Chestnut Tree House while he worked at South Lodge Hotel.

Since leaving there, he wanted to continue to support the hospice, which provides specialist palliative care to children in East and West Sussex and South East Hampshire.

It is a charity that is now very close to his heart. He recently donated a gastronomic experience for 10 for the recent Snowman Spectacular Ball’s fundraising auction.

He said: “Since crossing paths with Chestnut Tree House at South Lodge three years ago, I have been amazed by the wonderful work this charity for families in my home town of Horsham, and right across Sussex.

“I have visited the House near Arundel and it a really special place, uplifting and full of joy, not what I had imagined! I love sport and used to play football.”

The matches have been organaised by Lancing man Jamie Westley, who is looking for more players to take part, as well as business teams to challenge them.

Steven added: “Jamie’s initiative has been great to get involved with as it is keeping me fit and I am able to fit the monthly training sessions around my busy work schedule. I hope that more players will sign up – it’s really flexible and you need only commit to what you can manage.

“There is an exciting celebrity fixture in the pipeline. Anything to support this wonderful charity gets a thumbs-up from me.”
