The 63-year-old took over the store in 1985 and has remained at the helm ever since.

He was presented with the award by Caroline Hoare, Post Office field change advisor, earlier this week and Mr Shelley said he was delighted to have been given the honour.

He said: “I am delighted to receive the Long Service Award and will accept this award on behalf of my family and the wonderful team of staff that have supported me and helped run this store and post office for many years. I still enjoy running the Post Office and I am excited about developing the business even further in the future.”

The store is a family run business offering a wide range of Post Office services such as Travel money, Passport and Car Tax services as well as other local conveniences including newspapers which customers can have delivered to their homes.

The store has been run by the Shelly’s for more than three decades and that trend looks to continue as Mr Shelley’s son Chris is actively involved in the day to day running of the shop.

But Having achieved his 30 year milestone Mr Shelley has no intention of resting on his laurels and said he has exciting developments planned to modernise and expand the premises later this year, which would include a quality convenience store.

The shop is open from 7am-8pm from Monday to Friday, 7.30am-8pm on Saturday and 8am-6pm on Sunday.
