The Cancer Research UK store, in East Street, has been rewarded for its hard work and has beaten hundreds of other Cancer Research UK shops from across the country to claim the 2015 prize.

Over the past year the store has made £129,000 of profit and has also achieved one of the highest total of Gift Aid donations with £19,000 raised, all of which has contributed to the store picking up the award.

Store manager Victoria Godfrey said she was very pleased and wanted to thank staff and customers for their hard work.

She said: “We are absolutely over the moon. We are very excited and very proud of our team.

“I would also like to say a big thank you to our customers. They support us so well with their lovely items and that is why we have done so well.”

Lillian Miller has volunteered at the shop for 32 years.

She said: “I think it is well deserved. We get lots of customers come in from all over saying it is one of the best shops in the area.

“I never expected to be here for 32 years but it has all been worthwhile.”

Jenny Wright has also volunteered at the store for more than 30 years.

She added: “I am really proud. My shift is a special part of the week and I hope to continue to help for a few years to come.”

The charity says: ‘‘We have over 550 charity shops across the UK that rely on volunteers to help raise money for our pioneering research.’’
