Horsham’s new John Lewis and Waitrose store gets ‘thumbs up’ from customers

A week after the opening of the new John Lewis and Waitrose store Horsham has become a hot destination for shoppers across West Sussex.

Customers have come from far and wide to check out the town’s new shopping experience and the reaction has been very positive.

Peter Seaton, from Cranleigh, said: “It is amazing, we didn’t expect anything like this. We have been waiting for a John Lewis in this area for a long time.

“It is great and we will definitely be using it. Hopefully having it here will increase the footfall in Horsham and help other retailers.”

Pauline Wadey, from Horsham, agreed and said even her friends, who previously wouldn’t shop in the town, were now interested in coming to Horsham.

She said: “I know some people think it will take customers away from the rest of town but I think it will bring more people in.

“I have a friend from Findon who said she would never shop in Horsham but when she heard about John Lewis at Home she said she would definitely start shopping here.

“I think it is really good and it will bring people to Horsham.”

Anne Harwood, from Broadbridge Heath, said it was good to have a shop which drew people over to the west of the town.

She said: “I think it is nice and big and clean. It has bought a lot of things into the town that weren’t here before and the cafe was very nice. I will be coming back to do our shop.”

John Rogers from Pulborough said: “As I drove in I was blown away by the front of the store. It is amazing.

“The staff have been very helpful and it is a great asset to Horsham.”

Joanna Rogers added: “I think it is very positive and it has encouraged me to come to the supermarket.”

Sue Bromley from Billingshust said she hoped the new store would attract more big name retailers to the town.

She said: “It is very nice and modern and in the long run it will benefit the town as other big names will hopefully start to move in.”

Mr Carpenter, from Horsham said: “It feels as if you have come into a new major shopping centre. I think its very good and I am very impressed with it.”

Joanna Burgess, also from Horsham, added: “It gets the thumbs up I am very impressed.”

Branch manager of John Lewis at Home Nigel Davis was very happy with how the first week of trading went and was looking forward to bringing more success to the town in future.

He said: “It has been incredible. The customers reaction has been fantastic.

“We have had a really lovely reaction from customers both shops have been incredibly busy and have had a very very good weekend.

“We have a fantastic team and the real stars of the show has been our partners.

“The shop is attracting people from far and wide and I think that is a real positive for local business.

“I am looking forward to building up relationships with businesses in the town centre and working together with them to build on the reputation of Horsham as a great shopping destination.”
