Horticultural societies join forces for combined event

For some years Southwater Horticultural Society held a small Rose & Sweet Pea Show on a Wednesday evening.

However, it didn’t really seem to do justice to those most glorious of summer blooms.

A chance chat with Slinfold H.S., who have their show on a Saturday, lead to both societies holding a combined event this year in Slinfold.

The result just goes to show what a little co-operation can do, and all agreed that it had been a great success!

We hope to repeat the enterprise again next year, Southwater hosting.

Honour was satisfied as winners in the various classes were spread between the members of both societies as follows:

n The William Doll Rose Cup (For most points in Div 1) - Pauline Jepps

n The June Mary Cup (for the most points in Div 11 Sweet Peas) - Dennis Collins

n The Wagner Trophy (for the best exhibit in Class 29 – best flower) - Peter Buckley

n The Floral Art Trophy (for best exhibit in Div 1V) - Anne Tuckwell

n Special Award (for best entry in Childrens’ Cookery ) - K Canham

n Other winners in Childrens’ Section were Henry Cox and Emily Brown
