Hospice support group

A SUPPORT group for St Michael's Hospice has been launched in Bexhill.

Some 20 volunteers took part in a meeting at St Peter’s Community Centre to discuss the possibility of setting up a group committed to supporting and fundraising for the hospice.

Julie Brett from St Michael’s said: “It was not a bad turnout.

“They decided they wanted to go ahead and get a group up and running - they even booked in their first event. We are very pleased about that.

“It is never going to be easy to start something like this from scratch so I thought we would invite people along and see what they said about it - they were all really positive.”

She said the idea came from looking at the success of the Hastings and St Leonards support group, which last year raised £50,000.

“I thought if we cover Bexhill as well why on earth haven’t we got a support group there too?

“I thought it would be really good for Bexhill to have its own and they can decide what events they want to run which are right for Bexhill.”

The group decided its first event would be a sing-song coffee morning with music provided by Iris Gillett’s guitar group. This will be held at 7 Richmond Grove, on Saturday November 20, at 10.30-12noon.

Entrance will cost £2.50 to include coffee and the occasion will be to celebrate the launch of the support group.
