Hospital threat on the agenda

Worthing Hospital will be one of the headline-hitting issues to be discussed at a public meeting held by county councillors next month.

The council's Worthing County Local Committee meeting will discuss the threat to downgrade services at - or even close -Worthing Hospital.

John Livermore, the Committee's Chairman, said: "We are raising this topic because the NHS financial crisis has sparked rumours of cuts at the hospital.

"We share the serious concerns of residents about any threat to downgrade local accident and emergency services.

"The fears about the Hospital come in the wake of a proposal to shift much-valued cancer treatment facilities from Worthing to Brighton.

"As a County Local Committee, we strongly oppose any threat that will see more health facilities leaving West Sussex."

The committee will also discuss proposals to make Offington Avenue one-way and the proposals by the South East England Regional Assembly to dump millions of tonnes of London waste in West Sussex.

The meeting is being held in the Charmandean Centre, Forest Road, Worthing, on Wednesday July 26, starting at 7pm.
