Hospitality training boss is served a top title by Queen

In his 30 years in the hospitality training industry, John Hyde has overseen the learning of 200,000 apprentices and worked with some of the top hotels in the country.

So perhaps he will consider booking into one to celebrate after being recognised in The Queen’s 90th birthday honours list.

Mr Hyde, who is from Shoreham and whose company Hospitality Industry Training is also based there, has been made a commander of the Order of the British Empire for services in the further education and training sectors.

He will be made a CBE at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace later in the year.

Mr Hyde said: “I am delighted to accept this award on behalf of all my staff at HIT and other colleagues working to deliver apprenticeships and upskill the country.

“The satisfaction for me is seeing employees in the hotel and catering sector gain skills, confidence and competence through their apprenticeship to improve their life chances and earning potential.

“The hospitality industry has changed beyond recognition in the last thirty years with a phenomenal rise in UK-trained Michelin starred chefs, rise of fine dining, gastro pubs and exciting new culinary offerings.

“The catering apprenticeship providers and further education colleges have created the trained chefs to meet this expansion and I am proud to have facilitated the training of over 200,000 apprentices through Hospitality Plus and now HIT and Connect2Care.”

In his career Mr Hyde has helped found two of the most successful providers of hospitality and care training, including HIT Training.

Since the company was founded in 2006, it has steadily grown and supported 100,000 learners in businesses such as The Dorchester, Hotel Du Vin and the Hummingbird Restaurant in Shoreham Airport.
