And a host of daffodils was what greeted the many visitors to the show.

Show organiser Rose Franks said: “The narcissi entries were nearly twice the number seen at last year’s show and there were new exhibitors who we hope may now have got the ‘exhibiting bug’.

“This Spring Show is always special. It showcases the amazing variety of narcissi and other Spring flowering bulbs and shrubs which are so fresh and welcome after winter.

“Interesting photographic categories included ‘a slug or snail’, which resulted in many poor slugs and snails being coaxed out of hibernation so that they could be photographed for the show. The winning entry actually made a snail look like a very cute little creature!

“The floral art exhibits were of a very high standard, but sadly, so far, the Society has failed to persuade more of the local flower arranging talent to take part.

“Handicraft entries also showed the high level of skill in the village. Children’s entries were represented by colourful cardboard chicks creatively decorated with feathers and googly eyes! More entries from children would be very welcome at future Shows.

“Overall there were 220 entries and there was a stream of visitors all afternoon. Most of the cakes were eaten, and visitors met old friends and shared a cup of tea with them. Overall this was, as usual, a very pleasing, warm and friendly village occasion.”
