Hot Rod sleigh ride

Members are decorating their classic cars and assembling at 4pm along De la Warr Parade outside The Old Bathing Station, where Father Christmas - or one of his helpers - will be.

He - or they- will be ready to meet any children who would like to say hello and have a look at the Hot Rod Sleigh and the Christmas glitz that they have given to the cars.

It is planned for the Christmas cavalcade to take the cars for a ride around town, leaving the Old Bathing Station at 4.45pm and travelling along Marina to Sackville Road, where they have special permission from Shining Lights to drive up Western Road, then on to Endwell Road as far as Bexhill Station, then turning right along Sea Road, down St Leonards Road, Parkhurst Road to Sackville Road, then repeat the route.

The Hot Rod Sleigh together with the latest addition – reindeers – was made from some of the profits from the Anglo/French market, and with the expertise and assorted skills of Bexhill 100 Motoring Club’s members.

Secretary Lynn Brailsford said: “There was a Hot Rod Sleigh last Christmas put together by selected members who came back from the classic car show at the NEC and finished it in time for Christmas. But I was a bit let down because they put a V8 engine in it...I thought, that’s wrong, there should be reindeer. But now there are, so I am happy.

But reaction to it last year was great - everybody loved it.”

Lynn and the team are looking forward to the Christmas lights switch-on, and she commented: “I think its wonderful. This to me is people power, everybody pulling together and doing it for the benefit of the town. It’s getting the community spirit going.”

Bexhill 100 Motoring Club hope as many people as possible will give them a wave in the lead-up to the main event in the town centre.
