House fire in Haywards Heath

Four fire engines were called to a home in Haywards Heath this morning.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service say they were called to an end of terrace house in Turners Mill Road at 5.50am.

The fire had started in a second floor airing cupboard, causing fire damage to much of the second floor, and heat damage to some of the roof space.

Unconfirmed reports say that an off-duty firefighter had put most of the fire out, preventing it from spreading to the roof before fire crews arrived.

Firefighters in breathing gear put the fire out, and the incident was reported dealt with by 7am.
