IT MUST be a tough job being a MP – tackling critical issues facing the nation and sometimes facing the wrath of the public in the media spotlight.
A mature politician would surely hope they are judged only on their abilities to represent ‘the people’.
But a new website (www.sexymp.co.uk) has caused a stir in Whitehall after it revealed a list of all the ‘sexy MPs’ in parliament, a total of 648, and rated them in order of sex appeal, from number one ( 30-year-old Luciana Berger, MP for Liverpool, Wavertree) to 648 (Steve McCabe, MP for Birmingham, Selly Oak).
In the Sussex Express news area, handsome MP Simon Kirby, for Brighton Kemptown (including Peacehaven, Telscombe Cliffs, East Saltdean) came top of the list for local MPs in Lewes and Wealden districts with a rating of 220.
Further down, Stephen Lloyd, known for his striking masculine face, and representing Eastbourne and Willingdon, struck a respectable 375 score.
Wealden MP Charles Hendry was only 20 places below at 395. Mr Hendry, speaking at a Public Bill Committee meeting on June 16, mentioned his ‘Sexy MP’ listing during an Energy Bill debate.
He said: “I do not think I have ever been called arm candy – on the sexy MP website I came just below the Speaker’s dog.”
Following an interruption in the debate, he added: “It is rude to laugh at one’s own jokes, but I have just realised what the Speaker’s dog looks like.”
Heathfield dapper MP Greg Barker was not far behind his Tory colleague with a 406 rating.
Lewes MP Norman Baker was at the lower end of the website list. He was given a ‘613’, just one place below Communities Secretary Eric Pickles. Mr Baker’s spokesman said he ‘did not have an opinion on the website’.
Website creator Francis Boulle, said: “Although I fully expect this to offend some people, this was never my intention and I hope you will see the funny side.”
