How to beat theburglars

HOMES in the Iden and Peasmarsh areas are being hit by a spate of burglaries.

Police are appealing for local people to be vigilent and are upping patrols in the area.

They are so concerned that they have issued a special number for people to ring to report suspicious activity.

Rother Neighbourhood Policing Inspector James Scott said: “These burglaries have all been similar in that the offender/s gained entry to homes in a similar manner, silverware and jewellery has been stolen and, in the main, the incidents have occurred at similar times, namely during the weekend between 6pm and 10pm.

“I’d like to firstly offer reassurances that Rother is still a very safe place to live and that crime rates are still low. Over the last couple of weeks both uniformed and plain clothed police patrols have been stepped up in the areas affected by these burglaries and they will continue but we need your help too.

“We rely on you for information that could lead to not only the detection of a crime but stopping it from happening in the first place so I’d like to ask all to please continue to contact Sussex Police on 101 with any information about suspicious people, behaviour or vehicles.

“We have set up a dedicated telephone number, 07867908314, for the areas that have been affected and I urge residents of Iden and Peasmarsh to use this phone to report anything they believe is suspicious.

“Please however do not use this phone for an emergency or if a crime is happening, as always call 999”

Rye police sergeant Warren Downs said: “I’d like to reassure all that we continue to conduct both high visibility and plain clothed patrols in the areas affected and visit all victims to offer crime prevention advice.

“We will do all we can to bring those committing these crimes to justice but we need your help to do so. Please call us on 101 or report online (www.sussex.police.uk) if you notice any suspicious activity.”
