Huge queues as Lottbridge Drove Eastbourne closed due to incident

Lottbridge Drove in Eastbourne has been closed by the emergency services this morning (Wednesday).

The busy road is closed southbound from the Tesco roundabout to Cross Levels Way due to a reported diesel spillage.

One Twitter user said there was “traffic chaos” in the area due to the incident.

There is also a northbound lane closure between Birch Road and Tesco roundabout.

While Birch Road is closed between Hawthorn Road and Lottbridge Drove, according to East Sussex Highways.

PC Gareth Evers said at about midday the southbound carriageway had reopened but it is “very slow and affecting neighbouring roads”.

He said, “Northbound still closed and expected to be for at least the next four hours while [East Sussex Highways] await specialist equipment.”

Eastbourne police released a statement at 1pm. It said, “Following an earlier incident this morning, Highways and ESFRS are clearing a fuel spillage on Lottbridge Drove.

“As a result the Southbound carriage way from Lottbridge roundabout to Seaside Roundabout (Tesco roundabout) is currently closed.”
