The comment follows coverage in today’s West Sussex County Times (pg 16 and 17) which reports on a Poundland lorry that tore up grass verges and ripped off tree branches when it became stuck last week.

A slew of similar incidents have taken place over the years.

Now HDC is working with West Sussex County Council to find a solution to stop hulking vehicles from using the street.

This morning Helena Croft, Horsham District Council’s cabinet member for communications, was out inspecting the damage.

She said: “We’re on our regular Horsham town walk with neighbourhood councillors and the Horsham Society.

“We’re working hard with the county council to find a solution to it, because it’s not right for the residents and it’s such an historic and important street.

“We’re just talking through ideas, but it’s not acceptable from our point of view caring for the town.”
