Hundreds attend Selsey's annual Christmas lights

However, this year’s was bigger and better than ever.

Around 250 young people and families joined in the lantern parade, which marched from St Peter’s Church to the community Christmas tree at the Crown Pub on Saturday, November 26.

Event organiser Sam Tate from Selsey Town Council was delighted with the turnout: “It’s been months of hard work to ensure all the lights were fully tested and put up, the support from volunteers and members of the council has been wonderful.

“We’re delighted that the local schools, brownies and Scout groups were able to take part in the parade and that the local shops supported the event by staying open late.”

After the devastating fire at The Academy earlier this year, Selsey Town Council wanted to ensure that ‘community’ was at the heart of this year’s celebrations. The parade was led by the Coastguard and the Lion’s Club sleigh with the sea cadet’s band from T.S Sturdy providing musical accompaniment.

Hundreds of people lined the streets as the parade congregated around the community Christmas tree.
