Tanbridge House Schools’s sorcerous students reached for their wands on World Book Day on Thursday March 5 to achieve the record for ‘largest gathering of people dressed as Harry Potter’.

More than 500 Harry Potters cast a spell over the Guinness adjudicator to officially take a place in the record books.

The students were excited to all officially be world record holders. Olivia, in Year 7, said: “It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity we wouldn’t otherwise get. It is awesome and so good for the school.”

Students in Year 7 and Year 8 got into the magical spirit over the past few weeks transforming themselves from muggles into witches and wizards.

But a total of 512 students donned the recognisable forehead scar, pipe-cleaner glasses, paper wands and hats, more than double the original target.

Jacob, in Year 8, added: “My uncle has a world record so it is great to have another in the family.”

The event organisers, Mr Baker and Miss Ely, from Tanbridge’s Learning Resource Centre were equally excited and proud of the achievement.

Mr Baker, LRC manager, said: “This was such a fantastic chance for the students to be part of a world record and a great opportunity for us to raise the profile of reading across the school.

“The hard work of all the students and staff involved certainly paid off and made for a really enjoyable event. What a brilliant experience.”
