Hundreds of people line the streets for the Queen’s visit in Newhaven

Hundreds of people are lining the streets of Newhaven to welcome Her Majesty the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh to East Sussex today (Thursday October 31).

Despite the bad weather, people are waving flags and smiling through the rain.

Our reporter Samantha Clark is waiting with the crowds, she said: “It is raining, but there are hundreds of people here and despite the rain they are happy and excited.

“There is a great atmosphere.”

The Royal Couple will start their visit at West Quay Fisheries, Newhaven Fish Market, at 10.40am.

They will meet staff and tour the facilities meeting local fishermen and customers.
