Little Thomas Lawson, from Battle, sadly passed away on February 5, aged just two, after losing his battle with leukaemia.

The youngster was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, a form of blood cancer just three months earlier on November 30.

Friends and family set up a JustGiving page before Thomas died, initially to help pay for specialist equipment for him.

The target set was £15,000, with more than £8,500 so far being raised since the JustGiving page was set up which will now be used to help Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) and Children with Cancer Fund.

Sarah Dyer, a friend of one of Thomas’ family members, decided to organise the charity dog walk, held on Sunday (February 26) in aid of the cause.

Walkers assembled at Galley Hill and walked to South Cliff.

Sarah said: “Thomas’ family came to show their support on the day. There were around 80 people joining in the walk, so we had a good turnout, considering the bad weather.

“The amount raised was a total of £529.27.

“I would like to thank Tesco at Hollington for its donation of tea, coffee, sugar and squash and Tesco at Ravenside for its donation of dog treats.

“I would also like to thank Bexhill Sea Angling Club for letting me use its premises and especially to Vanessa Tillet and her daughter, Emily for their time making teas, coffees and serving cakes.

“Thank you to everyone who donated cakes and a big thank-you to everyone who came. All the proceeds are going to Children with Cancer Fund in Polegate.”
